Room 1 – I AM THE KID WHISPERER
I consider myself to be a kid whisperer. I am confident that I can handle the most difficult class of young learners using techniques that are very similar to those used by Cesar Millan in his show The Dog Whisperer. It may seem crazy, but they work! This session is for anyone who has a challenging group of kids.
Room 2 – LET’S HAVE A BREAKDOWN!
Grammar isn’t just for big kids. As young learner teachers, we must help them assimilate it by drilling, practising and breaking it down. I’ll take you through how I do this step-by-step with my students and share practical ideas for class time that are engaging and enjoyable.
Room 3 – DON’T B1 OF THOSE BORING TEACHERS
Do you struggle to make exam preparation fun in your classroom? B1 activities don’t have to be boring. There are lots of ways to make exam preparation enjoyable for your students. In this session, I’ll be sharing games and engaging activities that I use in my exam prep classes to prepare students for the speaking and writing sections of the Cambridge PET exam.
Room 1 – BRINGING YOUR COURSEBOOK TO LIFE
Do you sometimes look at your preschool and wonder how you will ever be able to fill a whole lesson with that short simple activity? In this session, we will look at how you can get the most out of your very young learner coursebook content. You will go away with a guideline on how to create effective and fun lesson plans and lots of ideas to implement right away.
Room 2 – FLASHCARDS, POSTERS, AND PAIRWORK, OH MY!
We have so many materials at our fingertips but sometimes we just don’t know how to take advantage of them. This session will show you how to build and extend practical activities in the young learner classroom from something simple, like flashcards. Let’s get your kids prepped for those YLE official exams.
Room 3-STOP THAT “MISUSE” OF ENGLISH!
I know how tricky it can be to come up with relevant yet original ideas to extend our students’ knowledge and improve their results in the FCE Reading and Use of English paper. This session will offer practical and hands on ideas and activities for teachers to take and use in the FCE prep classroom. These ideas will expose our students to challenging lexical and grammatical structures in a logical way and present them with some key techniques to use when tackling paper 1.
Room 1 – DRILL, BABY, DRILL!
No, I’m not talking about oil! I’m talking about vocabulary! In this session we’ll go step by step through how vocabulary should be drilled and how to do it in a way so the whole class is engaged and enjoying it. Teachers need to remember that children won’t produce the vocabulary on the first day of the unit so vocabulary drilling and games should evolve as children are able to produce it. You’ll come away with some practical ideas that can be put to use in the classroom!
Room 2 – NOT JUST HANGMAN
Let’s get some new games going in the classroom to keep our students motivated from now until the end of the course. Teachers sometimes stick to the same games throughout the year and students get bored with them. We’ll see various versatile games to use for older primary students and tweens. These can all be modified to different grammar, vocabulary and general review.
Room 3 – KILL 2 SKILLS WITH 1 STONE
With so many types of writings at the Advanced level and so many requirements for each one, how can we prepare our students to tackle the Cambridge Advanced writing paper? Are there ways to incorporate enjoyable speaking activities into our writing classes and kill two skills with one stone? This talk will outline my approach to combining these skills and share ideas that I’ve used in my classes to prepare students to be better writers. It will focus on essays, proposals, and reviews.
